The Paradox of Free Will and Orthodoxy

by horngyih

Should the liberty of conscience and the freedom of the individual be incompatible with any compulsion of religion? Note here that I refer to Compulsion and not Persuasion, for actions taken under coercion of Canon law surely is not a choice made by the conscience nor the free will of the individual. By compelling an individual to act in a specific and restrictive edict, is to deny the conscience of enlightened choice and the gift of free will.
